About the map

Borders come from Historical Basemaps by André Ourednik, used under CC BY-SA 4.0. It’s 42 discrete snapshots, not a continuous record — so the map crossfades between real years rather than pretending to know where a border sat in 1247.

Shapes are simplified hard, which is why they look lumpy and why a pin near a coast finds the nearest ruler rather than an exact one. Treat it as a cheerful sketch of history, not an atlas.
